EDUCATION

For over 15 years I have been involved in outdoor, in-school and out-of-school time education in both rural and inner-city settings. Until this past fall, I coordinated the ArtSpace, a youth and community arts outreach program in historic Shaw neighborhood where I continue to volunteer.

Are you looking for a class in the most comfortable of spaces? I have recently started to teach in private homes!  The host invites friends and acquaintances to join in a photography workshop, I bring the laptop, projector and screen and the class happens in the most comfortable of spaces.  Class fees vary on length and scope of the class but are mostly 40-60% less than what you will find in the area.

I am also available for afterschool youth workshops and private tutorials for both youth and adults. Please contact me with your questions and ideas.

Below is a sample of youth work from an all girls project in NE Washington, DC.  The participants were ages 11 - 14 and we used two low cost art lights, a dark blue sheet and an entry level digital camera.  Since then, I have worked with a number of students and shown their work at numerous different locations in the city.

Are you an artist looking for photographer willing to climb on top of a guard station in a secure hospital wing to document a suspended public installation?  Or how about someone who can hustle beautiful shots when there's three big blue electric lifts in the way?  Or even more amazing - able to teach photography to fifty young men in a juvenile detention center, and see them produce some truly jaw-dropping self portraits?  Kristian is your man.  His depth of experience as a photographer, educator and arts manager are unparalleled in the national capital area.  His portfolio, communication skills, sensitivity to subject, willingness to experiment and  literally go out on a limb made it a no-brainer for our charter school to contract with him to teach photography to our students.  And heck - he runs his own large format prints, and frames them, too!  Keep him in mind for your event, class, or project.  He's phenomenal.

Washington, DC

I took a photography class offered at New Community ArtSpace and taught by Kristian.  He was an amazingly informative and energetic teacher that brought the most out of his students.  When it came time to have our student show, he also did a wonderful job printing and matting one of my favorite photographs that I took in the class.

Recently, I brought Kristian in as my portrait photographer and it was a wonderful session in my own home, complete with studio lighting.  I generally don't like to be photographed so him coming to me added both convenience and comfort and allowed me to invite a friend over for the shoot.  I highly recommend his photography to others.
